What is Tenku™?

Born under Japanese skies, Tenku Sleep is a dry head spa method blending massage, sleep science, and spirit.

Designed by Akemi Watanabe and medically supervised by Dr Hiroshi Shutō , this technique eases the body into parasympathetic calm - without oils, without words - only presence.

Awaken your potential.
Better sleep starts here.

  • Person sleeping on a fluffy white surface, under soft lighting.

    Induces Deep Relaxation

The gentle massage techniques applied to the head and neck areas help soothe the nervous system, leading to a state of deep relaxation.

This calming effect can make it easier to fall asleep and achieve restorative rest.

  • A person in a white shirt lying on a cloud-like surface with closed eyes and soft lighting.

    Reduces Stress and Anxiety

By alleviating muscle tension and promoting the release of endorphins, the therapy can decrease stress and anxiety levels.

Lower stress contributes to improved sleep patterns and reduces instances of insomnia.

  • Person sleeping on white bed holding glowing cloud-like pillow in tranquil setting.

    Balances the Autonomic Nervous System

The therapy stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for ‘rest and digest’ functions.

This activation helps balance the autonomic nervous system, creating optimal conditions for sleep by lowering heart rate and promoting relaxation.

  • Founder & Inventor of Tenku Sleep.

For over 18 years, I have been devoted to the art of 手温 Te-on – “Hand Temperature” treatments, a technique rooted in the power of touch. Having cared for more than 30,000 clients, I’ve developed an intuitive ability to sense the skin’s condition through my hands, achieving visible results and deep relaxation in every session.

While many aesthetic salons worldwide rely on machines for efficiency, I believe true transformation comes through skilled, intentional touch. Salons dedicated exclusively to Te-on are rare, yet this approach – grounded in the Japanese healing philosophy of 手当て Te-ate – offers a profound connection between body and mind. Every movement is guided by precision, rhythm, and intuition, creating a therapeutic experience that machines simply cannot replicate.

In today’s fast-paced world, what people seek most is healing. Through my daily practice, I am reminded that the hands can do more than treat the skin – they connect hearts. (手を通じて心をつなぐ / Te o Tsūjite Kokoro o Tsunagu).

I also draw inspiration from the French philosophy of Soin Esthétique – bringing out one’s true beauty through attentive, personalised care. My treatments combine this philosophy with the essence of おもてなし Omotenashi – the spirit of Japanese hospitality – to create results that uplift not only the skin, but the soul.

My mission now goes beyond treatment. I aim to shape the future of aesthetics by sharing the Te-on method with the world – empowering the next generation of estheticians to thrive as both skilled artisans and successful business owners.

To those with a passion for healing through hands, we welcome you warmly. Let us carry forward the 美学の精神 Bigaku no Seishin – the Spirit of Aesthetics – and honour this time-honoured craft together.

  • Tenku Sleep Medical Supervisor

Graduated from Showa University School of Medicine. I currently serve as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Fujigaoka Hospital (Showa University) and the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Hematology at Dokkyo Medical University Saitama Medical Center. I’m also the director of Minamikoshigaya Kenshinkai Clinic and hold a Doctor of Medicine degree.

I’m a certified physician by the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine and a specialist accredited by the Japanese Society of Allergology and the Japanese Society of Oriental Medicine, among others. I advocate for an integrative approach that blends Western and Oriental medicine, focusing on early detection and preventive care using advanced medical technology. Psychosomatic therapy is also central to my practice, with a strong emphasis on promoting wellness in middle-aged and older adults.

One key to healthy longevity often overlooked is maintaining and increasing healthy mitochondria. This can be supported through methods like heat and cold therapy, fasting, exercise, electrical stimulation, and massage. Targeted massage of the scalp, neck, shoulders, and shoulder blades not only enhances mitochondrial function but also raises adiponectin levels. Among the many massage techniques, the dry head massage method known as Tenku Sleep, developed by Akemi Watanabe, stands out as especially effective.

  • Head of International Education

As Head of International Education and Co-Founder of Tenku™ in Australia, I’ve worked with thousands of scalps, refining my skills through years of hands-on experience and deep respect for traditional Japanese head spa methods.

While the head spa industry grows rapidly, many follow fleeting trends. At Tenku™, we prioritise authenticity—blending science, tradition, and expert touch to elevate head spa into an art form.

Hands are our greatest tool. Unlike machines, they feel, adapt, and respond. True mastery lies in understanding pressure, rhythm, and intention to create real transformation.

My mission is to share this knowledge and shape a new generation of specialists committed to results-driven, holistic scalp care.

If you’re ready to grow and master the art of head spa, Tenku™ welcomes you.
